When Peonies Don't Bloom

No Buds Appear:

  • Planted at wrong depth
  • Competing with roots of trees and  or shrubs
  • Over-fertilized with Nitrogen
  • Plants too young and immature
  • Plants too large, old, or overcrowded
  • Too much shade

Buds Appear but Flowers Do Not Develop:

  • Flower buds killed by late frost
  • Too much shade
  • Disease
  • Nematodes
  • Over-watering
  • Poor drainage
  • Plants undernourished
  • Excessively hot weather
