Harvesting Ornamental Grasses for Indoor Arrangements

September is a great time to cut the beautiful freshly opened plumes of ornamental grasses such as Miscanthus and hardy pampas grass (Cortaderia) to create lovely indoor fall displays. The new blooms are bright and colorful in the early fall and make stunning additions to your fresh flower arrangements.

To keep the grass plumes from breaking apart and shedding indoors and also keep them fresh and bright:

• Spray the blooms carefully with an acrylic spray or hair spray.
         Be sure to read and follow the label directions before you spray the grass plumes!
